Crosby maintains lead in voting for East All-Stars
New York, NY (Sports Network) - Pittsburgh Penguins center Sidney Crosby continues to lead all Eastern Conference players in voting for this season's All-Star Game.
Crosby, who became the youngest player to be voted to an NHL All-Star Game last season, has received 326,131 votes. Montreal Canadiens defenseman Andrei Markov and Boston Bruins defenseman Zdeno Chara round out the top three leading vote-getters in the Eastern Conference for the fourth straight week.
Crosby, Ottawa Senators right wing Daniel Alfredsson (143,819) and Tampa Bay's Vincent Lecavalier (142,674) are tops among Eastern Conference forwards. Philadelphia's Daniel Briere (121,860) and Atlanta's Ilya Kovalchuk (106,736) are currently on the outside looking in among forwards.
Markov (216,102) and Chara (165,014) rank first and second among Eastern defensemen, while Buffalo's Brian Campbell (125,849) and Toronto's Tomas Kaberle (121,814) currently stand as the third- and fourth-leading blueliners, respectively.
Montreal's Cristobal Huet (122,228 votes) holds a slight edge over New Jersey's Martin Brodeur (120,537 votes) in voting among Eastern Conference goaltenders. New York Rangers netminder Henrik Lundqvist is currently in third with 113,484 votes.
Thus far, more than 7.9 million votes have been cast. The voting, which determines the starting lineups for the 2008 NHL All-Star Game in Atlanta, continues through January 2. The game will take place on Sunday, January 27.
